This show is an international collaboration between the Tony Bulandra Theatre and the Comuna de Pesquisa Theatre in Lisbon, proposing a premiere translation of a classic Portuguese text written by an author with a very controversial life story, the famous ”O Judeu”. António José da Silva was a Portuguese playwright born in 1705 in what was then the colony of Brazil, author of seminal comedies for the Portuguese dramaturgy and language. The young playwright left a unique mark on Portuguese culture before passing away in 1739, in Lisbon, as a consequence of torture enacted by The Inquisition. ”The War of Rosemary and Marjoram” is one of the most famous comedies of this Portuguese Moliére, and it is staged by João Mota, the former director of the D’Maria II National Theatre in Lisbon.
Mr. Mota is one of the most sonorous names of contemporary European theatre, having founded the Comuna de Pesquisa independent theatre in Lisbon almost forty five years ago and having been the manager of the Portuguese National Theatre, as well as a professor and president of the Portuguese Superior School of Theatre and Cinematography. His work experience includes a collaboration with Peter Brook, which led to the formation, in 1971, of the Os Bonecreiros theatrical group.
Acest spectacol este o colaborare internațională a Teatrului Tony Bulandra cu teatrul Comuna de Pesquisa din Lisabona, propunând o traducere în premieră a unui text portughez clasic al unui autor cu o poveste foarte controversată, celebrul „O Judeu”. António José da Silva a fost un dramaturg portughez născut în anul 1705 în (atunci) colonia Brazilia, autor al unor comedii definitorii pentru dramaturgia și limba portugheză. Tânărul dramaturg a lăsat o amprentă inimitabilă în cultura portugheză, murind în anul 1739, la Lisabona, în urma torturilor Inchiziției. „Guerras de Alecrim e Manjerona” este una dintre comediile acestui Moliére portughez, text care va fi montat de marele regizor lusitan João Mota, fostul director al Teatrului Național D’Maria II din Lisabona.
Domnul Mota este unul din cele mai sonore nume ale teatrului European contemporan, înființând teatrul independent Comuna de Pesquisa din Lisabona în urmă cu aproape patruzeci și cinci de ani și fiind directorul Teatrului Național Portughez, profesor și președinte a Școlii Superioare de Teatru și Cinematografie Portugheze. Experiența sa de lucru include colaborarea cu Peter Brook, în urma căreia a fondat, în anul 1971, grupul Os Bonecreiros.
